This is just to say that I CANNOT get VW's symphony #8 out of my head!  How it lodges in the brain!!

Paul, did VW particularly favor the viola?  Now that I think about it, there is a lot of lovely viola highlighting in VW works.  I imagine that that's somewhat rare, that the viola more often gets overlooked?

And OT - I just made a banner for the community profile. Now we can advertise!  Read the profile information and see if that sounds more suitable than what it was before - more inclusive.  (And all just so Percy Grainger can have a spot...)

Grace,

I've done a little digging, and I discovered that VW played the viola. There's a whole list of famous viola players at The Viola Web Site.

I'm shocked that you didn't know that already! Shame! *tsk*

Deepest and humblest apologies! Just shows there's always something new to learn about the viola - an instrument of mystery!

Guess so! :D

How lovely that he was a violist. I like it when composers are instrumentalists too.

Especially those who played the less obvious instruments - like Holst played the trombone (apparently in an attempt to counter the affects of asthma). :o) [see - I do know some things!]

Forgot to say, I love the new banner! Sorry if I put a spanner in the works by mentioning the nationality of Mr Grainger! btw - can you let me know how you created the aforementioned banner? I'd love to try one for Cantus Firmus!

Thanks very much! I made it in Serif photo plus, which is like a free similar program to photo shop. It has tools for manipulating images and text, etc.

Nah, it wasn't you who put the spanner in the works. I already knew Grainger was an Australian. One of my Australian friends pointed it out to me when I was announcing the creation of this comm, which quite surprised me! He seems so British! But I think the new description I wrote is safely inclusive. :D
